How Unit Conversion Works
Most unit conversions use a base unit system. Every unit has a fixed ratio to a common reference (e.g., meters for length, kilograms for weight). To convert any unit A to unit B, we first convert A to the base, then from the base to B — eliminating the need for thousands of direct conversion tables.
Result = Input × (A_to_base / B_to_base)
Temperature is a special case — it requires offset formulas rather than simple multiplication because the scales have different zero points (0°C ≠ 0°F ≠ 0 K).
